DDR - Dance Dance Revolution

It feels great. I've been out of shape from sitting down all day in front of the computer and I came home to play DDR in the workout mode . I worked out for 30 minutes and burnt ~240 kCal. I need to do this every night and I'm thinking I could loose 80 lbs!

I wanted to ask if anyone has used the eye toy for workout? I was thinking of buying one because I'd like to work out my arms. I hope more games like this come out where exercise is combined with fun and excitement.

There's a way to work arms in a dancing game? o.0

Anyway, 80 pounds is one hell of a lot! If you burn that in 30 minutes you must play The Legend of MAX over and over again. I'm in a half ass attempt to lose weight, but I'm not over weight..but 10 pounds or so would give me a bitchin 6-pack. Well anyways, good luck. Studies show the best time to lose weight is in the morning on an empty stomach. Eat well, and don't eat after 8, and it will help a lot.

it wouldn't give you a bitching six-pack unless your abs are already incredibly well defined

it's not really no eating after 8, more or less 2 hours before you go to bed... or at least in the study thinger i read. ;]

Ok, I hate to be a downer, but it'll take a lot more working out than 240. The increased heartrate is GREAT, but that's just not enough to start any rapid weight loss. Congrats for starting though!

I'd go with at LEAST 600cals (about 30-45 mins on heavy, I don't know what it translates to on lower difficulties)

Heh, swim. I burn about 2,000 calories a practice.

Make sure you eat right though. Don't do any stupid shit, like low-carb, that's so bad for you. You need carbs in order to work out, anyways.

Cut down on the junk and work out a lot. So simple and it works XD.

Using EyeToy in a DDR game is... well, weird.
I can do all the nine-footers pertty well, but when I have to think when to wave my ARMS, I start failing the easiest seven-foot crap *_*

I don't think it's worth $40 (?) for the eye toy. One you get to harder stuff you will be working your whole body as if running. ANd once you get to the harder levels prolly withing a month, you will stop using the eye toy, because it is meant for the easier stuff (i think) and it will be a waste of $40. If you want to work you arms, get drum master for PS2.

only consider getting an eye toy to work out your arms if you want to buy the actual eye toy games

the eye toy functionality in ddr extreme is retarded

I'm so out of shape. :| I'm skinny, but just unhealthy. I need to go buy a new DDR pad and start playing so that I'm atleast somewhat active again.

You burn calories either way, with or without using your arms. If you're using a PS2, I don't really think it's worth it, unless you plan to use it for other games too. In fact, a lot of us don't even play it on a console--we use computers with Stepmania or some other equivalent program such as Dance With Intensity.

If you're using a soft mat, each step probably registered as more than it was, and that's why it says you burned that much. Like nnnnoooo said, that would take Legend of Max over and over again.

I really don't like the eyetoy. I see no reason for it. I don't play DDR to lose weight, I do it for the fun. Besides....I'm somewhat underweight right now so that would be very unhelpful for me.

No on the EyeToy unless you have money to waste on a somewhat idiotic extra. ^_^u.

I used the eye toy as a workout when my nephew left it at my house. It's not the best, but it does give you a good healthy feeling when you do it for 2 hours without stopping =^_^=

i lost about 40 lbs in a month, believe it or not. i played it for about 8 hours strait every day, though. also, i ate very little (lol, i got so into the game that i forgot to eat ^_^;;). i wasnt trying to lose weight at all, it just kinda happened.

the only thing is that this was when i was 14 or 15 and it might have had something to do with me still growing. either way, i say that it is very possible to lose weight and that if playing constantly isnt working, put yourself on a diet as well. hard exercize with a great diet always does the trick, not just one or the other.

I say forget workout mode and go for normal mode... Work your way up to being able to consistenly pass Heavy songs and then do that for about half an hour or so.

Use arm and leg weights when you play at home. You swing your arms around when you get really into the game, and obviously leg weights do. If you're going for weight loss, man that'll burn calories.

I have done this trick for toning up and it works really well. Just be careful with the leg weights at first. Start with something pretty light. Your legs won't be used to the weight being there, so if you play on heavy or oni... your legs will get really tired really fast if you don't ease yourself up to the heavier weights. Tired legs don't move as fast as you think they can sometimes. I wiped out pretty good once playing at someones house because of this. lol
Good luck though, I think you can deffinatly lose weight from this game. I've done it, my friends have done it... just keep up with a good diet and other exercising too.

PS. Eye toy for DDR?? Sounds bizzare to me.. or.. like Para para. XD

i think the "calories burned" thing is way off, caus i was in work-out mode for a REALLY long time and ended up losing no weight.
arm and leg weights might do the trick like insave bassist said. good luck losing 80 lbs.!!
